Services

All Services at St James' Church are after the orders in Common Worship.
We welcome anyone to join us for these occasions, or just to come and use the church space for personal prayer and quiet reflection.

On Sundays, Mass (8.00 a.m.) is a quiet, reflective service, lasting about thirty-five minutes, with a short sermon and Holy Communion.
There is no music or exchanging of the Peace.

Parish Mass (Eucharist or Holy Communion, 10.00 a.m.) is at the heart of
St James’ life and witness - incorporating a sermon by the priest or visiting preacher. Our worship is enriched by the use of vestments, incense and good congregational music. A choir is present on special occasions.
Lasting about one hour and ten minutes.

There is an opportunity afterwards to meet socially over tea and coffee.

The Sunday School meets in St James’ Church Hall (corner of Prebend Street and Packington Street) at 10.00 a.m. in school term time and joins the congregation at the Peace or in time for Communion. An 'All Age Service' is held on the first Sunday of the month when the children take a full part in the worship.

Children are welcome at all Services - if your young child is restless, we really don’t mind. Please, don’t take your little ones out of Church – you may use the Vicar’s Vestry where there are toys to play with.

Other Services

Baptism (Christening), Confirmation, Marriage, Funeral, and Thanksgivings can be arranged in consultation with the Vicar who will be pleased to advise you.

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)
If you are anxious or concerned about anything, a meeting to talk with a priest can always be arranged.

Visitation of the Sick and Ministry of Healing
Holy Communion is taken every Friday to the sick or house-bound and we are glad to take the sacrament to any who would value it. St James’ frequently combines with other local congregations for an ecumenical Healing Service.

Other dates and events

Throughout the year, St James' holds special services to mark important anniversaries in the Church year and ecumenical services.
Details of all these are included in the St James' Calendar.
