at St James’
We enjoy excellent music at St James, we are hoping to appoint a new Director of Music shortly. A job specification can be obtained from the Parish Office (vicar@stjamesislington.org)
The Church possesses a fine two manual organ and a ring of six bells.
The 10.00 a.m. Sunday Mass is sung, using good quality congregational settings (varied according to the season) and responsorial psalm settings. Customarily we use the New English Hymnal.
The congregation includes a number of talented amateur and professional musicians who form a choir for our special Services.
Advent Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
Many visiting singers from other churches and local choral societies join our choir for this occasion. Traditional carols and seasonal hymns are interspersed with choir items.
Marriages and important occasions
For your Marriage and any other important occasion, the Director of Music is available to assist you in your choice of music.
A choir of professional singers (4 or more) may be engaged should you require it.

The Organ
The original organ was built by Gray and Davison and subsequently rebuilt by Monk and Gunter in 1938. The present fine two manual organ was refurbished in 1990 by Hill, Norman and Beard providing a new console and transmission system, together with tonal improvements. Additional features include a Multi Channel Piston Selector.
