St James’ Church has been supporting a Night Shelter, with support and funding from the PCC, since October 2007.

It generally operates on Wednesday nights throughout the year from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 a.m.

Our guests are rough sleepers, sometimes chaotic, who have fallen through the social services net. They are probably the people you step over as you go about your business in Islington. Our parishioners offer them hospitality by providing a hot dinner, a warm bed and cooked breakfast.

We work in partnership with St John’s R.C. Church (Duncan Terrace) and the Pilion Trust drugs and alcohol outreach teams and can draw on a wealth of pooled professional advocacy workers who are equipped to help our guests with housing, employment, health and legal matters.

Most costs are covered by our volunteers – but further support is most welcome.

If you would like to help us with our work amongst the most vulnerable in our community, please contact:

Most valuable of all would be your help as a volunteer - your commitment can be as little or as much as you like, from making a cup of tea and playing a game of cards to staying through the night.
